Working to prevent domestic violence

JUCONI works to prevent and heal the consequences of domestic violence affecting girls, children, youth and their families living in extreme poverty and who have been living on the street.

Each year, JUCONI’s programme provides direct attention to 350 children from 120 families and 80% of those who have participated in the JUCONI programme have broken the cycles of poverty and violence and have been reintegrated into society.

Approach

JUCONI helps children and their parents to recover from the traumas caused by violence and to acquire the emotional, cognitive and social skills they need to break the inter-generational cycle of violence and poverty and become integrated into society through therapeutic interventions and long-term personalised attention.

In addition, various training is provided to the staff of government and non-governmental institutions that also work with vulnerable groups.

JUCONI:

  • Never gives up on or expels a child or family from the programme
  • Maintains an emphasis on quality over quantity
  • Knows that what works for one child may not work for another
  • Shares its success and knowledge with the world
