Showing the way in therapeutic care
The Mulberry Bush School provides specialist residential therapeutic care, treatment and education for primary-aged children from across England and Wales, made vulnerable by their severe social, emotional and behavioural issues.
The staff works closely with the children’s families to support them with the changes they need to make to enable them to live together as a family.
Children arrive from environments of family breakdown, high anxiety and trauma. The Mulberry Bush’s work is about long term change. To achieve this they build relationships with children and families and engage in building a more stable future together.
Approach
The Mulberry Bush believe that to effectively understand, educate and treat children who display challenging and disturbing behaviours, we need to be reflective practitioners, highly attuned to the communication and needs of children.
The Mulberry Bush also share their knowledge of therapeutic residential and foster care and promote therapeutic childcare and trauma-informed practice through their International Centre for Therapeutic Care. The online Therapeutic Care Journal shares information about all aspects of care for children and young people.
The Mulberry Bush Outreach provides training and consultation on therapeutic work with children and young people for education, social care and health providers.
