This month, we’ve released another edition of our supporter magazine Family Matters. This time, we wanted to highlight the incredible impact that our supporters help us have on children and families across the globe. From West Africa to Bulgaria and New Zealand, our alliance members continue to transform lives in ways that would not be possible without the generous support of our donors.
We checked in with three of our member organisations and learned about Anastasia and Alisa’s journey to safety, thanks for our Ukraine Appeal. We felt honoured to have a chat with Tupua Ulrich of VOYCE Whakarongo Mai, who advocates for care system reform in New Zealand, and we are still in awe of Challenging Heights’ work in saving young Quasim from child slavery in Ghana.

📍 Ukraine
Anastasia and Alisa found safety
In March 2022, we launched our Ukraine Crisis Appeal to support vulnerable children and families. All funds raised went directly to local organisations working on the ground in Ukraine and the region. One of these was ‘For Our Children’ in Bulgaria, which helped Anastasia and her daughter Alisa get back on their feet.

Tupua’s journey to advocacy with VOYCE
Tupua’s story is one of resilience, identity and advocacy. Although he has happy memories of his early life, growing up with his parents and siblings, his parents struggled with addiction. This led to Tupua being taken away by the state, supposedly for his own safety. What followed was his journey through a broken foster care system.
📍 Ghana
Young Quasim escapes with Callenging Heights
When Qasim was six years old, when he was trafficked to work on fishing boats on Lake Volta, the centre of Ghana’s commercial fishing industry. That day, Qasim joined thousands of other children trafficked on the world’s biggest man-made lake – most of whom are under the age of ten. Read about his journey to freedom.
