New in Brief 1

As an alliance, we are reaching an important milestone:

We’re soon launching our global guidelines around kinship care! Did you know that 1 in 10 children around the world are living in kinship care? Kinship care is a form of care, where a child is cared for by a family member or close family friend who is not their biological parent.

At Family, one of our key focuses is to advocate for better, support for kinship care families and for children in kinship care, globally. Together with a group of international children’s charities, we have developed this guidance paper, and are ready to take it to policymakers around the world. Keep an eye on our website and social media to follow this work’s impact.

A Tick 4 Kids in New Zealand:

Family for Every Child is proud to be part of the Tick 4 Kids collective – a movement designed to engage political candidates in discussions about what needs to happen to improve life for children and young people. Together, we’ve developed a campaign that aims to inform voters on political parties’ positions on positive policies for children – because everyone’s vote can be a tick for kids!

Children saved from slavery in Ghana:

Our member Challenging Heights works to help children escape exploitative, slavery-like work in Ghana’s fishing industry. Recently, they were able to rescue 23 boys and girls and take them into safe, supportive communities. The children are now receiving aftercare, and Challenging Heights are helping them reintegrate themselves with their families, the community and the education system. Read about their incredible work at familyforeverychild.org/challengingheights.

Ukraine Appeal update:

As of July 2023, we’ve helped deliver over 500 care packages to women and children, supported hundreds of children and adults to register with healthcare services, and provided extensive psychological support. This response work is ongoing, and your help continues to make a difference. You can read about one family’s experience on page 6.
