About Tick for Kids
Tick for Kids is a movement designed to engage both the public and national election candidates on what needs to be done to improve life for children and young people in Aotearoa.
As a collective of organisations committed to improving children’s rights and outcomes, we work together to gain political commitments to improve the lives of children and whānau, and hold parties accountable once in power.
Family for Every Child, together with our partners, came together to contribute to Tick 4 Kids and put urgent asks to political parties on what needs to happen to improve Aotearoa’s care and protection system. Learn more and access the scorecard here.
In addition to the care and protection system, there are also scorecards across liveable incomes; housing; health; education; belonging; climate action; and youth justice.

Successive governments have failed to deliver on New Zealand’s commitments to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the promises they have made to care-experienced tamariki and rangatahi. This includes the most basic asks for any child or young person – things like stability, protection, a feeling of belonging and to have a say in decisions about them.
That’s why Family for Every Child and our partners came together to contribute to Tick 4 Kids, a collective of organisations committed to improving children’s rights and outcomes, to put urgent asks to political parties on what needs to happen to improve Aotearoa’s care and protection system. The parties responses are detailed in this scorecard.
There are huge challenges in our care system, but with the support of people like you, there is also huge amounts of hope. We all have a responsibility for the protection of children and wellbeing of our communities. By working towards a future that uplifts all, we can build a better and more equitable society.
