Dear All,
These are tough times and we are incredibly grateful for your continued support, which helps thousands of children around the world. In spite of challenges such as the global economic context, the climate crisis and the ongoing war in Ukraine, we are still able to do much for children and families with your donations.
This edition of Family Matters is full of projects we’ve been working on, with your support, that are touching the lives of children and families worldwide. It brings me optimism to see all the work we’ve been doing together, as well as the wonderful ‘thank you’ video from children we support in Greece.
In the last edition we spoke about the children and families who so urgently need our help in Ukraine. The situation continues to be extremely difficult for many, but I’m happy that our appeal – and your gifts – have been able to put vital aid directly in the hands of those who need it. We truly believe in the power of local grassroots organisations to effectively and efficiently channel support to the most vulnerable. This appeal has been a testament to that, with people like Dilyana and Oksana – who already work with communities in the region – able to step straight into action once required.
Of course, children in need are not only those living in war zones. One of our UK-based alliance members, Together Trust, is one of North West England’s leading disability charities and works with children in the region. They’ve been campaigning to make sure young people in the national care system are receiving adult care right up to the age of 18. It’s shocking that children as young as 16 are being left by the government to live alone in places such as B&Bs without anyone to look after them. These young people have often already experienced trauma in their lives.
There’s much more to discover inside. I hope you enjoy reading.
Yours in gratitude,
Rekha
