Strengthening families to prevent separation
Forum on Sustainable Child Empowerment (FSCE) was established in 1989 by a group of social development professionals who worked in child-focused organisations.
Its establishment was a response to the increased number of orphaned and abandoned children in Addis Ababa caused by the drought and famine of 1984/85. FSCE’s vision is to see the wellbeing and protection needs of children fulfilled and the organisation has enjoyed a track record of success stories helping vulnerable children and their families.
Active in the cities of Adama, Dessie, Bahir Dar, Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa, FSCE works on a wide spectrum of urban disadvantaged children’s issues and has built extensive expertise and experience making the organisation one of the leading local child protection organisations in Ethiopia.
FSCE prevents family separation through strengthening of families and rehabilitates and reintegrates children in difficult circumstances or those who have experienced serious exploitation. It protects children on the move, neglected children, children in contact with the law and parents at high risk of, or engaged in, abusive or neglectful behaviours.
While combating trafficking and child abuse, it is crucial to involve the children themselves.
